Apr 23, 2026 · 1 min read

24 April 2026, Freetown – The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the world’s leading and largest professional body of management accountants, has partnered with the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), University of Sierra Leone, to support the development of future finance and accounting talent in Sierra Leone. Through the collaboration, finance and accounting graduates at IPAM, University of Sierra Leone, will gain access to the CGMA Finance Leadership Program, a flexible, remote and digital learning program.

The CGMA Finance Leadership Program provides a guided learning and assessment pathway towards completing CIMA’s CGMA Professional Qualification and earning the CGMA designation. Using real‑life case studies, the programme develops a broad mix of finance, accounting, business, leadership, people and digital skills, equipping students with the capabilities needed to succeed in today’s evolving business environment.

Paul Aninakwah, ACMA, CGMA, Country Director – Sierra Leone, at The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, said:

“We are pleased to collaborate with Institute of Public Administration and Management at the University of Sierra Leone in strengthening the pipeline of finance talent needed to support organisations and sustainable economic growth in Sierra Leone. By enabling more students to access the CGMA Finance Leadership Program, we are helping individuals build the judgement, confidence and practical skills required to succeed in today’s business environment and progress professionally over time.”

Professor Ezekiel Duramany-Lakkoh, Vice Chancellor at the University of Sierra Leone, added:

“Partnering with CIMA gives our students access to a globally recognised professional pathway that complements their academic studies. The CGMA Finance Leadership Program will help them develop strong finance skills, broaden their perspectives and prepare for successful careers in a rapidly evolving business environment.”

With traditional in-person tuition and examination methods being challenged by digital acceleration, the CGMA Finance Leadership Program provides instant online access for aspiring business and finance leaders to learn the knowledge and competencies needed to succeed in the contemporary business world.

IPAM graduates at the University of Sierra Leone can start their CGMA journey at an appropriate entry level alongside their university studies, building on existing educational achievements, credentials, and professional experience. Upon successfully completing the program and fulfilling the practical experience requirements, students will earn the prestigious CGMA designation and become CIMA members.
