New awards to promote the value and importance of careers in accounting and finance, and empower young talent to thrive

1 August 2023, Singapore – The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), part of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, and the Singapore Management University (SMU) announced today the launch of the first-ever CIMA Singapore Awards in Management Accounting. These awards will help support and develop outstanding young accounting, business, and finance talent, and foster the next generation of leaders in Singapore.

Over the next five years, CIMA will recognise a total of ten SMU students with the CIMA Singapore Awards in Management Accounting. Starting in 2023, it will give two awards a year to the top undergraduate student and postgraduate student enrolled in the relevant management accounting courses offered by SMU’s School of Accountancy, alongside a monetary prize to support their studies.

Wilber Ng, Country Manager – Singapore at the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, representing AICPA & CIMA, said:

“We are delighted to announce the official launch of our CIMA Singapore Awards in Management Accounting with the Singapore Management University. These awards will help recognise exceptional talents at the SMU School of Accountancy, but most importantly they will help nurture individuals in the early stages of their careers in accounting and finance. Our partnership with SMU is a sign of our joint commitment to build a strong accounting and finance profession in Singapore, equipping the next generation of business leaders with the skills and resources they need to thrive in the modern workplace.”

Seow Poh Sun, Associate Professor of Accounting (Education), Associate Dean (Teaching and Curriculum), SMU School of Accountancy, added:

“We believe a strong partnership between educational institutions and professional bodies is essential for developing the next generation of accounting professionals. The launch of the CIMA Singapore Awards in Management Accounting marks an important step in our growing partnership with CIMA and the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants. We are grateful for their generosity and support in recognising and rewarding our management accounting talents.”
