520 students from the University of Cape Coast recently competed in the CIMA Business Games, and team “The Brainy Bunch” emerged victorious in the challenge.

The CIMA Business Games were organised by AICPA & CIMA, together as the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, and the University of Cape Coast. They are aimed at full-time undergraduate students to enhance their business, leadership, and problem-solving skills, and showcase their talent to prospective employers.

Themed “Sustainable Future: Navigating ESG Challenges in Business”, the games involved solving real-life business scenarios relating to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) topics. Students had to present business plans and solutions to a panel of Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation holders and professionals in finance and business management, with one successful team selected as winner.

Paul Aninakwah, ACMA, CGMA, Country Director for Ghana at AICPA & CIMA, said:

“We are delighted to have worked with the University of Cape Coast in kickstarting our CIMA Business Games. It armed students with skills being demanded by employers. I am pleased to have seen the enthusiasm and dedication that the students demonstrated throughout the challenge. This competition is just one of the many activities that AICPA & CIMA provide to nurture future business and finance leaders. I cannot wait to see the participants thrive in their careers.

“Congratulations to The Brainy Bunch, the team that won the challenge. It was no easy feat. Well done to every team that competed in the challenge.”

Dr Seyram Kawor, ACMA, CGMA, Senior Lecturer, Department of Finance, at the University of Cape Coast, said:

“Thank you, AICPA & CIMA, for bringing the engaging CIMA Business Games to the University of Cape Coast, our students enjoyed the challenge, and it was good to see them tackle real-life business problems. The competition is a great example of how universities and professional associations can work together to develop and train future generations of accountants and finance professionals needed by business and the economy.”
