At its May 2026 meeting PEEC approved revisions to the Tax Services interpretation (ET sec. 1.295.160), The revised interpretation maintains a principles-based framework and provides guidance for evaluating potential threats to independence, such as advocacy — when a member champions a client’s interest to a point that compromises independence and objectivity —and self-review.
