Women’s voices, leadership styles, and ideas are essential to the accounting profession.
As part of the AICPA® & CIMA® Women’s Global Leadership Summit, the Women’s Global Leadership Summit Supporter program allows organizations to showcase their support of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives alongside AICPA & CIMA.
The summit is a space for women to gather with peers and leaders to support one another. Attendees engage in sessions on leadership, diversity, and best practices and network with fellow accounting and finance professionals.
Crowe is one of the organizations supporting this year's summit, and Sydney Garmong, Partner, National Office, for Crowe LLP, shared why her firm actively participates as a supporter.
Powerful and lasting connections
In addition to her role as partner in the National Office at Crowe, Sydney Garmong is an executive council member of Women Leading @ Crowe, an initiative focused on nurturing the growth and development of women at all levels within the firm while also extending support to women in the community and the profession at large.
Crowe’s commitment to women’s advancement runs deep.
The firm was named one of Fortune’s 100 Best Large Workplaces for Women in 2023. Garmong believes the summit aligns with Crowe’s initiatives: promoting, advancing, and advocating for women, not only within the firm but also within the profession — a crucial part of their mission.
“The Women’s Global Leadership Summit is an amazing opportunity to bring a team of individuals from Crowe, both men and women, to come network and learn alongside other incredible women and male allies how to continue to be successful and advance in our careers,” Garmong said.
AICPA & CIMA Women’s Global Leadership Summit, as emphasized by Garmong, fulfills the dual purpose of empowering women and encouraging professional growth. Attendees can connect with peers from other firms and learn about the programs and initiatives they’re implementing to support women’s advancement. The summit is a platform for mentoring and guiding other professionals on their career journey.
“I believe one of the best ways to advance in your career is to create networks within your firm and the profession, and this is an amazing supportive opportunity to not only try out your networking skills but make impactful and powerful connections with peers and leaders in other firms across the country and globe,” Garmong said.
A global sense of community
Jeannine K. Brown, the Summit Planning Committee Chair and Chair of the Women’s Initiatives Executive Committee, emphasized two key reasons why participation matters.
“If you're genuinely invested in advancing your career and the careers of other women, this summit offers curated content designed to help women dive deeper into their thinking and reflection,” Brown said.
With her experience as committee chair, Brown has repeatedly observed that attendees leave the summit energized, with an actionable plan for progressing their careers and organizations.
The summit is also a gathering place where women can build a global community across the profession.
“Last year, many participants used the word ‘sisterhood’ to describe the emotional connections they formed, highlighting the power of this unique event in fostering meaningful bonds and shared experiences among women leaders,” Brown said.
A space for sharing value-rich perspectives
The Women’s Global Leadership Summit attracts women at all stages of their accounting and finance careers — firm partners, CFOs, board members, entrepreneurs, business owners, and emerging leaders attend.
An objective of the Women’s Global Leadership Summit is to create space for sharing value-rich perspectives and insights from subject matter experts across a variety of business and industry and experience.
Summit sessions also focus on addressing and solving personal and professional concerns.
The 2024 summit will have “more opportunities for women to network,” Brown said. The committee seeks to facilitate even more opportunities for women to expand their professional networks, build connections, and have meaningful conversations.
“Whether it's career advancement, returning to the profession, navigating later stages in their careers, or balancing motherhood and caregiving, everyone and every concern is welcome, and [everyone is] encouraged to participate,” Brown said.
“The summit has a unique way of curating joy — it offers content that truly nourishes my soul … The Women’s Global Leadership Summit is perfectly timed, coming at the end of the year, which is an ideal moment to reflect, restore, and recharge.”
