The Committee’s remit includes approving and maintaining the Code of Ethics, reviewing changes to the Royal Charter, Byelaws and Regulations where these affect the professional standards and conduct and developing monitoring and licensing arrangements for members and, where relevant, students. This includes oversight of the regulatory framework for Members in Practice, continuing professional development requirements, and CIMA’s responsibilities as an anti-money laundering supervisor, including compliance with applicable legislation and relevant oversight expectations. It also ensures that appropriate processes and relationships are in place with external authorities and regulators, so that CIMA can respond effectively to regulatory change and maintain a robust system of professional oversight.
In addition, the Professional Standards Committee receives regular information on conduct cases considered by the Investigation, Disciplinary and Appeal Committees, reviews significant risks affecting Council’s professional standards strategy, and may establish time-limited working parties or standing panels where specialist expertise is required, including for CPD and practising certificate matters. Through this combination of policy oversight, regulatory scrutiny and assurance reporting, the Committee helps ensure that CIMA’s professional standards framework remains effective, accountable and cost-conscious, while continuing to command the confidence of members, students, regulators, the public and other stakeholders.
