Tamarra L. Brown, CPA, CGMA, MBA, is director of administrative services for Alameda County Public Health Department. There she leads all aspects of finance, accounting, single audit, and administrative functions for the department. Prior to that, Tamarra served in the office of the agency director, providing leadership in single audit, internal control assessment, budget, and finance.
An innovative leader, Tamarra excels in bringing process improvements and a holistic approach to the forefront. At Alameda public health, she has created procurement and policy teams to maximize potential revenue streams and increase efficiencies across department programs. During her tenure in Alameda County, Tamarra also worked for social services, where she helped implement welfare reform. As a facilities director, she transformed the social services agency from 22 sprawling facilities to 14 efficient, state-of-the-art facilities with healthier environments for staff and visitors.
A licensed CPA, Tamarra has served as an audit professional in public accounting where her portfolio included banking, non-profit, and financial services clients. For the past three years, Tamarra has provided leadership as a member of the planning committee for the AICPA and CIMA Women’s Global Leadership Summit. Tamarra is also active in the California state society of CPAs, serving as a committee member of the Elevate: Women’s Leadership Forum, as newly elected trustee of the CalCPA Education Foundation, and as a council member at-large.
Tamarra holds an MBA from the University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business where she was a Consortium for Graduate Studies in Management Fellow. She is a lifelong learner and teacher who is passionate about financial literacy and education. Outside of work, Tamarra enjoys faith, family, fitness, and cooking.
