Public sector requirements and talent demands

A shortage of CPAs is making it challenging for some state and local governments to hire CPA employees and procure external audit services. There may be opportunities for states to reexamine their audit requirements and accounting and financial reporting frameworks for local governments and other governments for which they have oversight responsibilities to lessen some of the pressure of CPA employee shortages while still maintaining an appropriate level of accountability.
