The AICPA & CIMA and CPA Practice Advisor magazine recognizes outstanding women leaders who continue to make their mark on the accounting profession inside and outside of their workplaces during the past year.
The award, now in its eleventh year, was created by CPA Practice Advisor and is jointly administered by the AICPA & CIMA and CPA Practice Advisor to promote and support the success of women leaders as part of its broader mission of sustaining the profession. Women are nominated from their peers, and a group of independent judges select the award recipients, using the following criteria for candidates:
She has been playing an active role in innovation and excellence within her organization, and that role is carrying over to the accounting profession at large. Examples include creating and/or overseeing new programs for modernization, enhancing productivity, improving profitability.
She is one of the top leaders in the accounting profession or in an organization that serves the accounting profession, and her leadership has had a demonstrable effect upon the accomplishments of the organization during the past year.
She is a mentor, a sponsor and/or a role model, and someone who stands out in her ability to encourage and help those around her thrive and flourish. This includes attention to inclusivity and supporting and inspiring others within the profession.
She contributes to the future of the profession, is influential, and has a positive impact on the accounting profession as a whole. She is visible within the profession, through writing, speaking, educating, and any other ways of extending herself beyond her own organization.
She represents the accounting profession outside of her day-to-day job through participation in her community and outside organizations.
“Part of our Women’s Initiative Executive Committee mission is to help amplify the voices of the women in the profession so that they are heard and recognized,” said Mandy Gallaher, Lead Manager of Women’s Initiatives at AICPA. “It is a great joy to be able to take part in an award that not only celebrates women in the profession, but also highlights what they are doing to help the future of the professional.
“It’s important for women considering a career in accounting to have women role models, women they can look up to who are leading the charge, who they can see themselves being,” said Gail Perry, Editor-In Chief at CPA Practice Advisor. “For this reason, we are delighted to partner with the AICPA to give women leaders more visibility and celebrate their accomplishments. We’re excited to open the nominations for the 2023 Most Powerful Women in Accounting.”
Awards nomination process:
Award nominations open at the November AICPA & CIMA Women’s Global Leadership Summit and are typically open through January. Nomination are current closed for 2023 selections. Check back later in the 2023 year for the call for the 2024 nominations.
Women who are selected will be notified in XXXXX (month) and will be asked to attend an in-person awards gala at ENGAGE (hyperlink) in Las Vegas, NV to be celebrated for this significant accomplishment.
