Qualifying for the Experienced CPA Pathway means you have substantial experience working with individuals and families and engaging them on a wide variety of PFP topics – tax, retirement, estate, investment, and risk management planning, among others.

This exam is a streamlined assessment that applies the knowledge and expertise you have gained over the last seven years, along with the required PFS Experienced CPA Education, to case studies in the course.

Why take this exam?

This exam is the culmination of a rigorous pathway that started by obtaining your CPA license, accumulating a substantial amount of financial planning experience working with individuals and families (tax, retirement, estate, investments, and risk management), and staying competent in these areas through ongoing education.

Passing the PFS Experienced CPA Assessment allows you to obtain the CPA-exclusive PFS credential that builds on your CPA and opens the door to deepening client relationships and adding value to your firm.

You will meet the examination requirement for the PFS credential’s Experienced CPA Pathway once you pass this PFS Experienced CPA Assessment. It will apply the PFP Body of knowledge topics to the case studies covered in the required Practical PFP Applications CPE course in an online proctored environment.

Step 1: Exam registration/purchase. Purchase the PFS Experienced CPA Assessment and receive an email confirmation of your purchase. Upon completion of this initial exam registration, your credit card will be charged the non-refundable exam fee. Upon successfully passing the PFS Experienced CPA Assessment and subsequently applying for the PFS credential, you will be required to pay a PFS credential fee.

Step 2: Exam scheduling. Five to eight business days after receiving your purchase confirmation email, we will send out the Notice to Schedule (NTS) email enabling you to schedule the specific day and either online proctor time or testing center location to take the exam any time over the next 12 months.
