AICPA & CIMA ENGAGE Session: LGBTQ+ Belonging: Building a Supportive and Impactful LGBTQ+ ERG/BRG at Your Organization
Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are employee-led groups within an organization that are formed around a shared characteristic, identity, or interest. These groups are typically established to support and advocate for specific communities within the workforce. An LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group (ERG) serves many purposes. It can function as a springboard for conversations around career advancement and inclusion in the profession as a whole. Most importantly, it provides support for LGBTQ+ employees by fostering a sense of community and understanding within the workplace. Through education and advocacy, an ERG can help allies and others learn about LGBTQ+ issues and encourages them to actively support their LGBTQ+ coworkers, family members, and friends and demonstrates commitment to creating an environment where employees feel comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work.
In this session, members of the AICPA’s LGBTQ+ Initiatives Volunteer Committee, Kinman Tong and Jennifer Harrity alongside AICPA’s director of Diversity & Inclusion, Crystal Cooke, share valuable information about how to build and maintain an LGBTQ+ ERG at your organization.
