Debbie L. Smith
CPA
Debbie is a partner in Grant Thornton LLP's national professional standards group, specializing in employee benefit plan assurance. She has over 35 years of experience in auditing benefit plans and has practiced exclusively in this area for almost 30 years. Debbie is the current chairman of the Executive Committee of the AICPA's Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center and is a past chairman of the AICPA Employee Benefit Plans Expert Panel. She served a three-year term on the U.S. Department of Labor's ERISA Advisory Council and also served multiple years on the Technical Standards Subcommittee of the Professional Ethics Committee. Debbie represents Grant Thornton through her continued active involvement in various AICPA committees and task forces, and she is a frequent speaker at industry conferences on employee benefit plans. Debbie is a member of the AICPA, the Illinois Certified Public Accountants Society, and earned her B.B.A. in Accounting from Loyola University of Chicago.
Doug Bertossi
Doug is currently the partner-in-charge of CliftonLarsonAllen’s Minneapolis office’s Employee Benefit Plan group and is the lead partner for the firm-wide multi-employer practice. His background includes audits of single, multiple-, and multi-employer employee benefit plans, including defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans, health and welfare plans, and other tax-exempt organizations. In addition, in his 17 years of practice, Doug has also consulted on numerous employee benefit plans regarding plan administration, operations, and compliance. In addition to extensive audit and consulting experience, Doug has experience in the administration of defined contribution pension plans and plan qualification testing and issues. Doug has also prepared, assisted, and trained employees in preparation of reporting and disclosure requirements applicable to employee benefit plans. Doug has consulted with plans regarding compliance with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). Doug has been a speaker at the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans' (IFEBP) annual conference, and other conferences and seminars. In addition, Doug is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Employee Beenfit Plan Audit Quality Center (EBPAQC) Expert Panel.
Michele Weldon
Michele Weldon is a partner in the Financial Services industry practice group of the Assurance practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers. She is also the Employee Benefit Plan Practice Leader for the Firm. She has specialized in employee benefit plan and ERISA collective investment fund audits since 1990. Michele performs employee benefit plan audits for more than 50 Boston office clients each year. She assists the Firm’s National office in developing employee benefit plan practice aids and in resolving auditing, accounting and reporting issues. She is a frequent speaker at industry conferences on employee benefit plans. She also assists in developing and teaching in-house training sessions on the industry. She is a member of the AICPA’s Employee Benefit Plans Expert Panel and the Audit Guide Revisions Task Force. She is a former member of the Department of Labor’s Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Plans. Michele received an M.B.A from Babson College and a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
David Torillo
David A. Torrillo is the managing member of Torrillo & Associates, LLC, and oversees the accounting, auditing, and valuation services for the firm. Formerly a senior manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Dave has over thirty years of accounting, auditing, SEC and financial reporting experience, primarily in employee benefit plans. Dave also volunteers on several committees, boards and associations. He has instructed courses and authored papers on several accounting topics and also performs quality control reviews. Dave has served on the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants Employee Benefit Plan Committee since its inception in 2007 and has co-presented the Technical Update at the PICPA Employee Benefit Plan Conference numerous times. Dave has been a presenter for numerous topics for AICPA Employee Benefit Plans Conferences as well as for webinars of the AICPA EBPAQC. Dave has served as a member of AICPA Employee Benefit Plans Expert Panel and is currently serving on the AICPA Practice Monitoring Task Force for Employee Benefit Plans and as a member of the AICPA EBPAQC Executive Committee and PICPA Professional Ethics Committee. Dave received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with highest distinction and honors from Pennsylvania State University. He has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1994 and is licensed in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and New York. Dave has been a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) since 2004 and was awarded the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) credential by the AICPA in 2006. He is a member of both the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of Certified Public Accountants, as well as the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts. In 2016, Dave received the Advanced Defined Benefit Plans and the Advanced Defined Contribution Plans Audit Certificates from the AICPA.
James Haubrock
Jim has been providing assurance, tax and consulting services to employee benefit plan clients for over 30 years. He is shareholder-in-charge of the Firm’s Employee Benefit Plan Audit Practice and leads a team of dedicated employee benefit plan specialists. Jim is also the shareholder-in-charge of the Firm’s SEC practice which consists primarily of employee benefit plan audits for public companies. Jim is an active member of the Marketing Advisory Committee and Strategic Planning Committee. Jim is very involved within the accounting profession and the community as a whole. He has been a frequent speaker for the OSCPA and AICPA discussing a variety of employee benefit topics such as limited scope audit requirements, the new 403(b) plan audit requirements, 11-K audit issues, employee benefit plan audit efficiencies and generational differences in the workplace. He is a member of the AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center Executive Committee and a member of the AICPA Governing Council. Jim is a Past Chair of the Ohio Society of CPAs and chair of the OSCPA Employee Benefit Plan Audit Conference. He is a graduate of the OSCPA’s inaugural Center for Leadership class. In 2008, Jim was named one of Ohio’s Most Infuential CPAs by the OSCPA. Jim is past President and current Treasurer of A Special Wish Foundation, past President of the Mark Baker Foundation and is an active member in numerous other community organizations.
