The pre-seen materials set the scene to the case study being examined.

These materials allow you to achieve the following objectives:

• I am familiar with the case study, including the name of the company, the industry as presented and the key staff, enough to make references to them in my answer. I should not need to rely on reading this material again in the exam, other than for quick reference.

• I have understood the context of the scenario and the challenges being outlined.

The pre-seen analysis video takes issues raised in the pre-seen materials and links them to the relevant technical knowledge applicable at the level you are at. It will serve as a reminder of topics that are relevant to the pre-seen and help you identify new topics and potential issues. The video was created by the tuition provider Finntutors.

This resource is designed to be viewed after doing your own analysis of the pre-seen materials and will allow you to achieve the following objectives:

• I have analysed the case study pre-seen materials. I have identified the issues outlined and can relate to them using my own technical knowledge. I have made detailed notes to revise from going forward.

• I have watched and absorbed the pre-seen analysis video, created by Finntutors. I have added more context and relevance where appropriate to my analysis notes and made a list of any knowledge areas that I need to brush up on.

Each level has been developed around a business role, which you are expected to simulate in the exam. The examiners wish to see you demonstrate your ability to act in that capacity. Each role has certain technical knowledge requirements to fulfil it. It is key to ensure that you are clear on both the role and relevant knowledge needed at your level of study.

This resource allows you to achieve the following objectives:

• I have understood the role I am expected to simulate in the case study exam. I need to be able to communicate in that capacity.

• I have understood the relevant technical knowledge I am to be comfortable with using the assessment outcomes. Any gaps in my knowledge have been identified and revised.

There are techniques that help you navigate your answer in the exam. These will allow you to demonstrate your skills and create a credit-worthy answer. Learning these skills is key; the practise of them will come shortly, when you have the opportunity to do a mini mock exam.

This resource allows you to achieve the following objectives:

• I understand what is meant by “application” and can see how relevant knowledge and competencies need to be considered and addressed at the appropriate level in a work-based scenario.

• I can interpret exam verbs, recognise the skill level they signal, and structure my answers to meet examiner expectations.

• I have understood how I need to demonstrate my proficiency in the case study exam in order to maximise marks. I understand what takes an answer from being either a level 1 or 2 to being a level 3.

Challenges to studying can feel overwhelming and frustrating. They can delay progress and create a huge barrier in achieving your goals, even if your desire or motivation to achieve those goals is high. Everyone's journey is unique; however, some challenges are more common than you may think.

You will find a separate section further down the page with resources to support your study challenges. It is key to be able to say:

• I have identified the challenges I personally face while studying, the purpose of which is to find support for those areas to allow me to progress.

• I have read relevant support resources to try to overcome these challenges. I have asked for support in areas for which no resources were visible.

Putting your exam techniques and skills into practice is a vital step in preparing each time you attempt an exam. The mock questions are based on the actual pre-seen and are shorter than the real exam to fit into your busy schedule. They are a great opportunity to get some detailed feedback on your answers.

For those following the CGMA Finance Leadership Program (FLP) pathway, this is an extra mock exam in addition to the ones available on the CGMA FLP platform, which are part of your course.

This mock is optional to all, but due to its value, we recommend you submit it.

We have set up a thread on the community for each mock by level; you can find full details in those threads. You can submit your mock exam anytime from now onwards. The submission dates indicate when the tuition provider Finntutors will be marking the scripts. They will return results to you in 2–3 days from those submission dates. For the deadlines please read the thread titled ‘Mini Marked-Mocks’ for your level on the community group page.

• I have scheduled the time in my calendar to complete and submit the mini marked mock before the final deadline.

• I have attempted the mock exam and have reviewed the feedback carefully to learn from this attempt and to feel more confident in my ability.

Our first live session centred around allowing yourself the time and space to move forwards and prepare for a resit exam. As the time to sit your exam grows closer, it is very important to make sure you feel confident in yourself. This does not mean that you should feel like you know everything — more importantly than that, you should use your energy to feel positive about the upcoming exam. Join us for a short live session to boost your own motivation and help support your peers.
